18th Century George III Period Figured Cherry Antique Drop Leaf Table
About the Item
A very fine quality antique Georgian drop-leaf table, likely English or Irish, George III Period (1760-1820), featuring a rare and magnificent highly figured curly cherry top with outstanding grain detail, color and warmth. Having large D-shaped panels to the sides, once the leaves are raised and tabletop extended the top morphs from narrow and rectangular to a large oval shape, rising gracefully on four richly sculptured hand carved solid cherrywood Queen Anne style cabriole legs, terminating in pad feet.
This remarkable hand-crafted antique, circa 1780, displays superb quality craftsmanship and construction, with hand cut dovetailing, pegged mortise tenoned joinery, and strong wooden hinges that allow the gateleg to smoothly swing out in order to support the massive leaves.
