American Federal Drop Leaf Dining Table in West Indies Mahogany New York, c 1820

About the Item

A handsome American Federal or Empire Pembroke table in fine West Indies mahogany with two drop leaves. This period breakfast table is supported by a reeded, vase-turned column on a quatre-form base with concave sides and rests on carved lion claw feet with casters. The apron, which features the play of crotch mahogany veneers, houses a deep drawer and has the original round brass plate and pull with tobacco flowers and leaves in repoussé. Carved acanthus foliage grace the four ankles above the feet and along the bottom edge, below the rings of the column. The top and drop leaves are made of solid, wide planks of mahogany with beautiful figuring. The patina the wood has acquired over its long history is a rich mixture of chocolate tones. Likely from New York, circa 1820. Note: You should always request a shipping quote.
