Antique American Drop Leaf Carved Mahogany Federal Empire Table New York 1825

About the Item

A fine antique American Empire carved mahogany drop leaf table, New York, circa 1825. The table is made from the finest flame mahogany & having two drop leaves with curved skirts that are supported by butterfly bracket supports, the table having a deeply carved turned baluster shaped pedestal with four curved legs. Both the pedestal & legs are deeply carved with acanthus leaf decoration, each leg terminates to a substantial lion's paw foot and each is raised on the original brass castor. This is a period table from the first quarter of the 1800s not a later revival piece from the late 1800s. Some Empire furniture can be heavy & bulky, this table is very elegant and displays the skill of the early 19th century New York cabinet maker and is a refined example of it's style. The table is robust and ready to grace your home and be used, the table is in excellent period antique condition, the table retains the original finish and is free from damage or repair.
