About the Item

Dining / Kitchen table hand-made in France in the early 1800s using oak and pegged construction. The top features four long boards nailed to the apron and mortised and pegged in two breadboards at each end. The edges are curved and, in some part, uneven due to use over time. The apron is flat and decorated with a thin hand-carved line. The legs are pegged to the apron, hand-turned and sitting on the original bun feet. The legs are connected at the bottom via an I-stretcher. Throughout the piece one can see indentations in the wood, letters carved, unevenness in the edges because this was a piece that lived a life. Most likely it was placed in a kitchen as a prepping table because one can really see many knife marks (pictured) that were made while chopping food or prepping dishes. People used to sit at is quite often because one can see that parts of the stretcher are uneven were feet were rested while working or while relaxing after a long day of work. This is a fantastic piece because it does have a lot of character, it has had a long life but it is still in great conditions and ready to be used and help you make memories for a long time still.
