About the Item
A fine and elegant George II period mahogany lowboy, displaying excellent color and patination, with refined proportions and crisp carving throughout. The top is of rectangular form with a molded edge above three drawers, arranged with one long central drawer flanked by two smaller ones. Each drawer retains its original brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons.
The shaped apron is adorned with a central carved scallop shell motif, flanked by scrollwork in high relief, reflecting mid-18th century English design influences.
Raised on four cabriole legs, each with pronounced knees and terminating in distinctive pad feet, the front legs further enhanced with carved stylized ears and knee brackets, showing superb craftsmanship.
