About the Item

Berlin pedestal centre cabinet in the style of Bruno Paul, circa 1925 This four-sided cabinet is veneered on all sides, allowing it to be placed in the centre of a room. The top has a marble top set in a moulded wooden frame, a form reminiscent of the neoclassical architectural detailing common in 1920s Berlin interiors. The two doors open to reveal three internal shelves, each of which is adjustable. Each side panel is inlaid with micro-intarsia, precisely executed in contrasting wood tones. The proportions and construction are inspired by Bruno Paul's typical furniture system, with its emphasis on clarity, geometry and spatial function. With its closed volume, veneered surfaces and modular components, the cabinet reflects the design vocabulary of Berlin Deco furniture between tradition and standardisation.
