19th Century Swedish Biedermeier Side Table in Birch Wood

About the Item

A Swedish sewing table in birch from the Biedermeier period, also called Karl Johan in Sweden. This style follows the name of the regent King of the period Karl the XIV Johan. This first part of the 19th Century working table for wealthy ladies, has a top that can be lift showing a numerous of small compartments that were used for keeping sewing materials and needles. A drawer is present on the front door and the paper tapestry inside is from the 19th Century. The top of this birch veneered table is liftable to make it easier to carry around. This fine antique could function as a center table flanked by two armchairs or would make a fantastic cocktail table as well.
