About the Item
Aesthetic Movement, Japanned bamboo side table. Japanning or Japonisme. Rough hewn and torched bamboo frame with “Japanned” top and panels. Single lower shelf decorative table. The word Japanning originated back in the 17th century. It was used to describe a lacquer finish that was created as a European imitation of the original Asian (mostly Oriental Chinese and Japanese) lacquer-work.
