David Ebner Bamboo End Table with Shelf, 2005

Contemporary American artist David N. Ebner's "Bamboo End Table with Shelf" is made of solid bamboo over a luan plywood core. Coated with a water- and heat-resistant 40% sheen lacquer. It's signed on the bottom with the artist's initials, date made and a Chinese character for tree or forest. The character is composed of three components that mean peace, tranquillity, and harmony. This piece ships directly from the artist’s studio. Additional pieces available through Highland Park, please contact the dealer for more information. About the artist: David N. Ebner is an artist or craftsman who works in four modes: classical impressions of furniture, turned objects, sculptural furniture and furniture. "I approach my art intuitively as well as intellectually, drawing inspiration wherever I find it. I've explored a variety of directions and themes over the years, but each piece is treated as an art object with concern for my material and honesty to its inherent qualities. For me, one's creative ability is demonstrated in the diversity of the pieces and what one learns from change". Educated at the prestigious School for American Craftsmen at Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. It was there under the tutelage of artist, Wendell Castle, that he realized that there could be "an artistic approach" to woodworking. Upon graduation from RIT, Mr. Ebner sought advanced studies in London, at London School of Furniture Design. After a two-year stint in the armed forces, Mr. Ebner knew he wanted to pursue life as a full-time studio craftsman. Establishing a studio on the south shore of Long Island in 1973. Three decades later, David Ebner is considered by curators and collectors alike as an integral part of the "Studio Craft" furniture movement. Mr. Ebner feels that he is creating "the antiques of tomorrow".
