About the Item

An unusual English cricket table from the mid-19th century, with circular sycamore top and cross-stretcher. Born in England during the third quarter of the 19th century, this cricket table features a round sycamore top, sitting above three turned splaying legs, connected to one another through a cross stretcher with spindle motifs and central medallion. Created in the early 16th century, cricket tables were traditionally made of three legs that allowed them to stand more strongly on uneven grounds. With its unusual appearance and lovely patina, this English cricket table circa 1860 will bring a touch of authenticity to any home.

19th Century English Pine Cricket Table with Round Top and Stretcher Base
Located in Atlanta, GA
A classic example of English country furniture, this 19th-century cricket table is crafted from warmly patinated pine with a quiet, utilitarian elegance. The circular top rests on three slightly splayed legs joined by a triangular stretcher, a hallmark of traditional cricket table construction designed for stability and symmetry. At just under 30 inches in height, its proportions make it ideal for use as a lamp table, side table, or even a casual accent piece in a kitchen or hallway. The apron features a gentle scallop detail, subtly softening the silhouette and lending the piece a hint of decorative flair without detracting from its rustic simplicity. The pine shows signs of age and honest wear, with visible knots, surface variation, and a rich honeyed tone that enhances its country charm. The underside reveals traditional joinery, visible wear patterns, and old tool marks, all attesting to its 19th-century origins. Whether paired with antique spindle chairs...
