Italian Onyx and Brass Trefoil Top Three-Legged Side Table, 1950s
About the Item
A striking and uncommon 1950s Hollywood Regency Italian onyx and brass three-legged side table or occasional table.
Stylized trefoil-shaped top with graceful curves joining the three lobes features dynamically-figured cream-to-brown-striped onyx slices set in tan terrazzo. (Color and tone are slightly warmer and richer in person than in photos taken under bright studio lights.)
A half-inch-wide polished brass band surrounds the top. Stands on a trio of slender and elegant Italianate polished brass cabriole legs with elongated conical pad feet that are 27.5 inches from toe-to-toe. Legs are joined by sturdy steel stretchers, upon which the top sits freely and stays in place due to its sculpted cast plaster underside and very considerable weight.
Despite extensive research, we’ve been unable to find another similarly-executed Italian onyx and brass table with such a distinctively-shaped top, making this a rare and especially attractive piece.

Very uncommon 1950s Hollywood Regency hammered copper & brass tall table lamp custom made exclusively by Hans Grag for Gump’s of San Francisco.
Skillfully hand-shaped and hammered copper half-dome cap and gracefully worked copper (or copper-toned brass) staves with brass rod spacers combine to convey a supremely elegant and perfectly-proportioned botanical aesthetic. Very subtle variances in tone and texture provide an added level of sophistication to the nicely muted finish.
Hans Grag signature and "Gump’s" stamped into side of base. Brass stem with original brass finial, harp, and socket. Original large pleated black silk drum shade featuring beaded gold brocade and velvet trim is included, though an update would better serve the lamp.
