About the Item

This is an old Japanese side table, believed to have been crafted in the early Showa period (1900s–1940s). It is made from zelkova wood (keyaki), known for its durability and striking grain patterns. Remarkably, this table was carved from a single solid block of wood, showcasing a powerful harmony between nature and craftsmanship. The legs retain an organic, root-like form, with just enough human intervention to create balance and stability. The contrast between raw, untouched curves and carefully shaped surfaces gives the piece a unique sculptural presence. The natural voids and irregularities in the wood are not flaws, but the result of time and nature—forming what feels like an abstract work of art. The tabletop shows slight warping, a testament to the authenticity of natural materials and something that cannot be replicated by industrial processes. Despite its age, the table shows no signs of insect damage and remains incredibly sturdy with no wobble—evidence of both the high-quality wood and the skill of the artisan who crafted it. The condition is truly excellent. This piece embodies the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and asymmetry. Its quiet, grounded presence makes it a perfect fit for modern minimalist interiors. While fully functional as a side table, it also stands on its own as a sculptural object that transcends time and function. Top dimensions: approx. 520mm × 560mm Weight: 12 kg _____________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
