Gustav Stickley Arts and Crafts Mission-Style Oak Trestle Table, c. 1910

About the Item

An exceptionally handsome circa 1910 Gustav Stickley Arts and Crafts movement Mission-style oak trestle table. Originally designed as a writing desk or library table, it could also now serve as a modestly-sized dining table. Features thick quarter-sawn solid oak construction with fantastic figuring throughout, and was hand-crafted in Stickley’s Eastwood, N.Y. workshop. Substantial H 15.63 in. x W 33.5 in. x D. 10.88 in. shelf-like stretcher intersects the trestle sides and is locked-in by oversized removable pins that provide a signature design detail. Base has a straight low-profile bottom indentation rather than the more commonly seen scalloped one. All visible screw holes have flush oak plugs. Original partial label on underside with Stickley logo and a lengthy description “signed” Gustav Stickley. This confirms that it was made by him and not his brother Leopold, who founded L. & J.G. Stickley. Next to the label is the number “673” handwritten in black wax pencil.
