About the Item
Contemporary New York artist Patrick Carrara's Black Ink on Mylar Drawing Triptych was created in 2017. This is his latest series Appearance, which he started ten years ago and also progresses by number. He uses black ink on Mylar, layering over and over thousands of lines freehand with a small brush. With constant and light movements of his hand, he spreads the ink by lightly touching the white Mylar’s surface line after line. With this process, Carrara replicates and echos the myriad lines of communication in which we dwell today.
As the Appearance Series progressed, he used four basic elements of lines to divide a square — both straight and curved, but mostly curved. Instead of fully covering the square with lines; he left open blank spaces creating what appears as an abstraction of letters or ‘logos’.
Mylar is a non-absorbent material and when the ink is applied over and over, this process builds up a tiny skin with different levels of thickness. The light is thus reflected between the grooves, rendering a subtle color effect. This “color effect” can change according to the natural or artificial light and ink density. There are currently 347 editions in this series, all one of a kind pieces of work. Signed, dated and numbered by the artist on verso. This triptych will ship directly from the artist's studio.

About the artist:
Born in Nice in the southeast of France, Patrick Carrara ventured to Paris in 1970 to begin his career in visual arts. After studies at the Fine and Graphic Arts school, he crossed the vast breadth of the Sahara. On the other side of the Atlantic, Carrara traveled north through Central America to Mexico and the United States. He traveled light, but never without his leather briefcase in which he carried paper, colored pencils, and a pen. They were, the tools of Carrara's trade, the instruments of his art, and rare was the time that he was not putting them to creative use. Not until his return to Paris, however, was he able to establish himself fully as a painter and illustrator. By then, though, the center of the art world was the city of New York. He moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1994 where he currently resides.
Patrick Carrara’s work is included in important private and corporate collections as well as being featured in art publications. He has exhibited in galleries and art fairs around the globe and continues to produce commissioned work for collectors.
