About the Item
This striking work by Bram Bogart, an exceptional example from his relief series, showcases the artist's groundbreaking approach to materiality and color. Created in 1989, this piece is not a traditional print but a sophisticated work cast paper, sometimes referred to as 'aquagravure'.
The unique process involved forming paper pulp under high pressure in a meticulously sculpted mold, creating a three-dimensional, textured paper substrate. The mold is then hand painted and another pressing applies the design of the artist. This ensure each edition possesses its own unique textural qualities and nuances, but more profoundly, bridges the gap between printmaking, painting and sculpture.
This piece features two prominent, thick blocks of color – a vibrant yellow on the left and a rich red on the right – contained within a looser, gestural blue and black border. The impasto effect is extremely pronounced, creating a relief-like surface. The sense of division yet harmonious balance between the two primary colors is striking.
Bogart's innovative technique defies categorisation, offering collectors a tangible and immersive experience that is a hallmark of his celebrated oeuvre.
The work is protected/framed in plexiglass case
