Early Hand Held Fan "Mount Fuji". Japanese Circa 1870

About the Item

Late 19th century fine quality Japanese hand held lady's fan for keeping cool; hand painted on silk with hand carved bone frame, floral leaf and fret work design; with 18 sticks in all. The hand painted subject matter is that of the iconic Mount Fuji in Japan with a multiplicity of cranes flying about in the foreground; three of those whooping cranes are hand embroidered. Colors are in light blue, grey, black,. and white to one side while the back side is plain. Non structural, but slightly visible hairline to mid section of frame; slight fraying and wear to the tips but, by and large, in very good condition and still very usable if need be; or simply to incorporate as a display item for this nearly 150 year old textile fan, which would have had copious use. Nice "early" all original hand held fan, guaranteed to be authentic and hand crafted with attention to detail workmanship. Dimensions: 9 5/8" high x 18" wide (opened) x 1" deep
