About the Item
This wall decoration is made from an old Japanese door.
It is thought to date from the Edo or Meiji period.
Originally, it was a heavy door with a surface coated in earth and plaster. However, the earth and plaster have been removed to expose the bamboo inside.
It was attached to the window of an old storehouse called a "kura." In Japan, old "kura" are considered a symbol of wealth. Storehouses were used to store not only food, but also important books, treasures, and items passed down from generation to generation, but their numbers are decreasing due to aging.
The base is made of bamboo woven into a lattice pattern called "takekomai" and is secured with string.
We recommend using a door from a Japanese "kura" to decorate your wall, creating an abstract painting using natural materials.
