Large Asian Lacquered Wood Panel, China – Late 19th Century

About the Item

Large rectangular panel in gold, burgundy, and black lacquered wood. Its numerous Asian decorations depict figures in traditional attire, fighting, or engaged in daily activities, amidst tree-lined gardens. These scenes are divided by openwork friezes, flower vases in cartouches, and gilded-edged sticks. The overall emerald green background highlights the details. The wide black frame of this panel is molded. This work originates from Ningbo, a Chinese port city connected to Shanghai by the longest sea bridge in the world.
