About the Item
Polo picture, Drypoint Etching by Pierre-Georges Jeaniott.
A rare Polo match etching by the artist by Pierre-Georges Jeaniott (French, 1848-1934). The drama of the match has been well captured and the etching is signed in pencil (bottom right hand margin) by the artist.
A dry point is traditionally done on copper plate, the image is engraved with an etching needle to create an impression of a drawing. When inked the plate can then be printed from again and again to produce an edition of prints.
Pierre-Georges Jeanniot (1848-1934) was a late nineteenth and early twentieth century Swiss-French Impressionist painter, designer, watercolorist, and engraver who was born in Geneva, Switzerland. He was taught by his father Pierre-Alexandre Jeanniot, who for a long time was director of the art college in Dijon. Pierre-Georges embarked on a military career and in 1881, after the army offered him the rank of commandant, he resigned to devote himself exclusively to his painting, which he had been doing continuously through his military career. He first exhibited his paintings and water colors at the Paris Salon of 1872, his earliest works consisted mainly of scenes of military life, although later he made his name portraying Parisian women during the 'Belle Époque'.

Kenneth Stevens MacIntire (1891 - 1979) was active/lived in California, Massachusetts. Kenneth MacIntire is known for Landscape, horse genre, figure, portrait paintings.
He also studied at the Fenway School of Illustration and the New School of Design. To finance his art schooling, he ran a mail boat for the Postal Service, delivering mail to the various Islands in Maine waters. He also got his first taste of the West when he went on a painting trip to the Colorado Rockies in 1922.
After serving in the army in World War I, he opened a studio in Washington D.C.
His work was featured on a House Beautiful magazine cover in 1920. While there he was commissioned to paint a portrait of a beloved family horse. Word spread and he was commissioned to do the same in California. Thus he moved there in 1930, first to Palm Springs, but eventually settling in Hollywood Hills.
