Miguel Cisterna, Embroidered Fabric Panel, France, 2016
Located in New York, NY
Equally elegant and exotic, Miguel Cisterna’s works imbue the classical French tradition of fine embroidery with a modern sensibility. His hand sewn, labor intensive designs layer contrasting materials to create one-of-a-kind haute couture embroidered textiles. Raffia is wrought into shafts of wheat gently bending into the wind, insects crafted from wire and shell hover and crawl, floral designs sparkle with crystal embellishments, and the fragile elegance of humanity is made apparent through anatomical drawings in thread.
Born in Chile, Miguel Cisterna now lives and works in Paris. Prior to opening his Parisian atelier...

Hand Embroidered Copper & Silk Thread, Bread of Life / Christ Church Relic
Located in Lisse, NL
For the collectors of stunning and unique, handcrafted religious art.
If you truly understand how much time and what skilled effort went into creating this piece and if you recognize the incredible details in this hand-embroidered 'cloth' then you will also recognize its value. Together with many other unique and top quality works of religious art this piece too was part of a collection of immense rarity and beauty. This piece is one of many unique items that were collected over a period of decades. Mind you, each hair and each line of shade that you see on the face of Jesus and his disciple is hand-embroidered. It is most likely that this extremely time consuming and rare quality piece was made by a highly skilled nun, in early 20th century Europe. We think either in Holland, Belgium or France. The cloth on the back was obviously put there to prevent the original back from fraying, thus protecting this church...

Early 20th Century Shabbat Table Cover from Jerusalem
Located in New York, NY
Folk Art Shabbat table cover, Jerusalem, circa 1900.
Embroidered at the four corners with the holy places for Jews in Israel, and with the wailing wall at the center.
The Hebrew rectangular text is a traditional song sung by Jews every Friday night upon returning home from synagogue prayer. It signals the arrival of the Jewish Sabbath, welcoming the angels who accompany a person home on the eve of the Sabbath.
The words to the song translate as follows:
Peace be with you, ministering angels, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
Come in peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
Bless me with peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
Go in peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.

Framed Chinese Qing Dynasty Embroidered Sixth Rank Badge
Located in Atlanta, GA
A finely embroidered silk civil rank badge panel framed in a giltwood frame circa 19th century. The square rank badge is known in Chinese as Buzi which was displayed in the front and back of the official robe to indicate one's rank status. The design is centered by a white egret of spanning open wings, perched on a rock in above the Li-Shui wave pattern. The bird is the symbol of the sixth rank official in the court of Qing Dynasty. The panel has a split in the middle and the bird looks up at a full red sun on his slight upper right, indicating that it belonged to a frontal robe of the spouse of a male official. Diamond-shape trellis on the black silk provides the background for the elaborate design. The bird is surrounded by scrolling clouds, auspicious symbols such as longevity mushrooms and Buddhist...
