About the Item

Unique decoration on earthenware made to order by the Artist for the famous Italian decorative ceramics firm Marazzi. An ode to love and wine carried by two muses treated in a very soft palette of tones. A slight relief underlines the graceful posture of these two charming female subjects ; a recurring source of inspiration in the work of Roger Capron. We offer a total of 3 tiles from this series of extremely rare unique pieces. Measurements of the tile (cm) 20x25 About the Artist Roger Capron (1922-2006) is one of the most proeminent ceramicists of french post war period. Graduated and then teacher at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, he moved to Vallauris in 1946 to produce mainly decorative pieces. He is a major actor in the rebirth of this village of potters marked by the presence of Picasso. From 1963, Roger Capron devoted exclusively his production towards art tiles and decorative panels. Two of his most famous achievements are the Harbour station in Cannes in 1957 and the entire decoration of the Byblos Hotel in St Tropez in 1968. Awarded at the triennial of Milan in 1954 and at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels in 1958, his artistic and architectural expression has been the subject of numerous exhibitions throughout the world with a great retrospective in 2003 at the French National Museum of Ceramic.
