19th Century Allegorical Painting of a Greek Goddess

About the Item

This Continental School, three-quarter length portait of a woman in classical Greek dress, dates to the later part of the 19th century. The piece was most likely commissioned by a traveler on the grand tour of europe, and the painter captured their subject in the genre of classical mythology and dress. Note: The piece is not signed or dated. Note: At some point in time his has been professionally re-lined and stretched on new wood stretchers, and on the verso evidence of three canvas repairs (see photos). Note: Image dimensions are 45" height x 32" width. Note: overall dimensions are 53.38" height x 40.25" width x 2.50" depth.
