19th Century Maple Framed Reverse Glass Painting of Nelson's Flagship Victory

About the Item

An early 19th century maple framed reverse glass silhouette painting of Nelson's flagship Victory. Silhouette reverse glass paintings were popular in the 19th century and well known ships of the period were a popular subject matter. HMS Victory was undoubtedly the most celebrated ship of the period. Victory was launched in 1865 and is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. The picture is in good condition and the image size is 26cm high, 35cm wide. The overall size with the frame is 39cm high, 47cm wide.
