Lemmo Rossi Scotti (Perugia 1848-Roma 1926) The beating of hay in the golden age Signed lower left: Lemmo R S Lemmo Rossi-Scotti, count of Montepetriolo, one of the most prolific 19th century painters of battles, was the son of Gaspare, who had been a pupil and friend of the purist painter Tommaso Minardi. Lemmo was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, under the guidance of Silvestro Valeri (1814 -1902), one of Minardi's students at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. He then moved to Rome, where he completed his training. Perrone of San Martino a Custoza in 1866 He painted paintings inspired by military themes of the Risorgimento, according to taste and favoring certain artistic expectations of the time. His battle of Custoza was presented in Milan and Rome, in 1879 [1]. He participated in various exhibitions, with battle subjects treated with narrative air, such as the charge of General Kellerman in Marengo, a painting that was exhibited in Milan in 1887. He participated in the National Exposition of Turin in 1880, attracting the interest of the Savoy. He painted the portrait of the Prince of Naples, exhibited in London in 1888. He frescoed the lunette in the Great Hall of the University of Perugia. In the early 1900s, Lemmo Rossi-Scotti made various decorations at Villa Lubin (formerly the headquarters of the International Institute of Agriculture and now the headquarters of the CNEL) in Rome: in stucco and painting, the ceilings of the reception hall, called "Sala Gialla”, with The Triumph of Ceres, followed by the procession of nations, the decorations of the two symmetrical side rooms and the grand staircase. Lemmo Rossi-Scotti has also painted landscapes and subjects inspired by current themes, wrapping them in a delicate, soft and dreamy atmosphere. In 1891, together with Annibale Brugnoli, he represented the art world in the Committee to erect a monument to Perugino in Perugia. The Etruscan School and In Art Libertas, created by the Roman painter Nino COSTA, participated in the artistic associations. The friendship with the protagonists of these two groups of artists and with English painters connected to them, favored cultural exchanges between Rome and Perugia. Lemmo Rossi-Scotti hosted his artist friends in his villa Santa Petronilla, near Perugia, on the second kilometer of the Via Eugubina. In Perugia, since 1878, Frederic Leighton and Nino COSTA came to visit and remained in constant relations with Lemmo Rossi Scotti and with the international, cultural and artistic cenacle of Villa Gallenga-Stuart. This beautiful antique porcelain plaque exhibits the fine quality of craftsmanship and artistry that the prestigious Berlin porcelain manufactory, KPM, is renowned for. The plaque is delicately painted with the full-length portrait of Duchess Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1776-1810), Queen of Prussia and wife of King William III (1770-1840). Louise was a popular Queen and was respected for her successful negotiations with Napoleon, before he became Emperor of France. In this plaque, she is depicted descending the steps of the Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin, which was the seat of the Prussian monarchy.
