English Regency Period Original Watercolor Birdseye Maple Frame Two Jackdaw Eggs
About the Item
An original British School Regency Period watercolor study of two birds eggs, mounted in a Georgian Period Birdseye Maple frame – Circa 1835.
These watercolors were largely painted by young girls from aristocratic families during the Jane Austen period. The arts of painting and music were the primary part of their education, and they became amazingly skilled.
The subject is a nature study of two eggs of the Jackdaw, a bird related to the Crow or Raven. The close-up view of the eggs is surprisingly detailed and realistically painted. Carefully colored with delicate shadowing, on a soft watercolor paper. The artist has titled the eggs in her own hand, adding to the charm.
The frame is beveled Birdseye Maple with an inner frame in gold leaf. The original Georgian period hanging ring is intact.
Painted by a very talented young artist.
