Pair of Chinese Republic Period Rosewood Framed Ancestor Portraits

A pair of hand-painted ancestor portraits in hand-carved rosewood frames, with reverse glass painted accents. Painted during China's Republic Period (1912 to 1949), the portraits are portrayals of members of the Qing Dynasty imperial court. The male and female are portrayed dressed in their full winter regalia, with heavy coats emblazoned with rank badges, and wearing long court necklaces. The period carved rosewood frames feature reverse gilt painted panels with iterations of the "shou" (longevity) character, as well as carved chilong dragons surrounding a "shou" (longevity) character on the top, and a flaming pearl of wisdom on the bottom. Each frame with two brass hanging hooks.
