About the Item

We are offering this very grand pair or Paintings (on board) in their original imposing solid burr wood and gesso water gilded very thick frames (17cm) - we believe that they are Gouache and painted on board Painted by a renowned Belgian artist called Louis Joseph Rekelbus (Signed L Reckelbus) who was born in 1864 and died in 1958. We don't have an exact date for this pair but the scenes, tones and style fit in with others painted around 19** The paintings are close up scenes of a country house with foliage in the same colours and we suspect the front and back facades of the same building Painting one is of a what looks like a large heavy blue font door with iron grates to the window inset under a grand portico covers in climbing foliage. With a very high paned window to the right framed in the same blue tones. indicating a grand scale room. Autumnal russet colour climbing foliage covers the walls with lose leaves scattered on the stone paved ground. Painting two is what looks like the rear elevation of the same building with smaller windows, access to a basement (which implies servants entrance at the side or read) and a charming small door with steep well trodden stepped access and a delicate yet plain iron handrail. The smaller pained windows denote lower ceilings and less grand rooms as the glass pains are smaller and cheaper than larger pains at the front of the house. also with climbing Autumnal foliage We think these charming scenes are the Owners and Staff views of the same property but both given equal importance in the care and attention with which they have been painted and observed The dimensions listed are of the framed paintings 99cm wide x 73cm High The paintings themselves are 65cm Wide x 50cm High
