Panting of Twins, Acrylic on Canvas MCM American

About the Item

If I were asked, Augusten Burroughs, as a gift we offer you either this Picasso, that Vermeer, an 18th Century French Pastoral featuring chickens or this midcentury acrylic on canvas Connecticut American painting of identical twin girls, I would absolutely choose this painting of twins. I am wildly in love with this painting because both twins clearly despise the painter who executed his portrait while looming above them, because that's easier lowering one's self to their height or the girls up higher on a box, say. The twins wear identical versions of the most hideous pinafore dress ever created. And how did their hair get that little flip? Think nature did that? Think again. That was mom, with a boiling-hot curling iron pressed against their sculls. Which is probably what set the tone for the rest of the day, all of which resulted in this painting. The twins clearly loathe the ehe experience of being painted, being forced to hold hands, and the twin on the left might be planning something nefarious. Measures: 30" tall, 27 ¾ wide, 2.5" deep, weight: 32 Lbs. When I saw this for sale at a Connecticut estate sale, I nearly steered my car into oncoming traffic in order to make an illegal turn into the driveway. I got out of the car without even turning it off; without even closing the door. I grabbed the painting. I just took it. "I'll take this," I said. The two men running the estate sale were seated side by side outside on the lawn and they looked surprised. "You want that painting of the girls?" I just stared at them. They had to have heard the screech of my tires as I slammed onto their crushed gravel driveway (this being Connecticut, after all), my car was running, door open, warning bell chiming, chiming, chiming and I was standing in front of them holding the painting. He needed verbal confirmation too? "Yes." I told him. "Don't you want to know how much it is?" I had to get the painting in my car. "How much is this painting please?" I asked, in a tone that suggested this was the very first thing I said to them. Pleased that the script was back on track, they gave me the price. I didn't have enough cash on me. Which I told them. "You can Venmo it." They knew Venmo? They were aware of the internet? These guys smelled like diesel and would for the rest of their lives, no matter how many showers and baths they took. When I got it home, I hung it in the most prominent position possible in my Georgian-era farmhouse. Guests were astonished. Our friends include text book editors, painters, several actors and actresses, authors, a nephrologist, the woman who brought personal training to Connecticut in the 1980s -let's just say a broad spectrum of friends with wildly divergent backgrounds. But the response to this painting was universal: "That is the most amazing painting, ever." This is the most amazing painting, ever. I had it reframed in a simple, modern boxy white frame with a gold inset frame. I also had it covered with glass. I know some people hate this. You can remove the glass if you like. But I couldn't risk anything marring their perfection. Measurements are below.

Pair Folk Art Paintings on Wood Panel, 1980s, by Moses Tolliver "MoseT"
Located in Southbury, CT
My uncle Bob was a country lawyer in rural Alabama and Moses Tolliver was one of his friends and clients. The pair of original paintings you see here were given to my uncle by Mr. Tolliver in exchange for legal services in the 1980s. Both the human figure and the snake were painted on scrap wood paneling and each has an aluminum beer pull-tab on the back for hanging. The works have been framed so the pull tab is not visible; if you prefer, simply remove the frames and both pieces will be as created. The snake painting...
