Abstract Serigraph Poster Entitled "1972 Munich Olympics" by Josef Albers

About the Item

Signed in print abstract serigraph entitled "Olympische Spiele Munchen 1972" by German artist Josef Albers, circa 1970. The piece was created for the 1972 summer Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. Posters were important for the marketing of this event, the XX Olympiad, which took place between August 26th and September 10th, 1972 with 195 sporting events and over 7,000 athletes from 121 nations competing; this was the largest games yet. Planning was underway from the late 1960's to produce a series of art posters using some of the most famous and emerging artists of the day. In 1968 a partnership was formed with the printing house F. Bruckmann KG, Munich, setting up a company called Edition Olympia 1972 GmbH. This print was published by Ives-Sillman, Inc. USA. The piece is presented in a silver metal frame and measures 28" x 43". Wonderful vibrant blue and gray colors! The piece is brighter than the pictures; I was trying to avoid glare from the glass and used very low light. Fabulous piece! #3277 Posters were important for the marketing of this event, the XX Olympiad, which took place between 26 August and 10 September. Highly collectible and rare linocut poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso, circa 1954.. The print is in good vintage and measures 24" x 30". It is presented in a simple black wood frame and is signed in the print. Super cool and hard to find Picasso poster! #2912 Starting in the 1950s, Picasso worked with the linocut printer Hidalgo Arnéra to produce posters for ceramic exhibitions and bullfights. The printer described their working method as such: “Picasso worked at night; in the morning, Marcel the chauffeur brought what he had completed to the print shop with notes added by Jacqueline Roque. I pulled the proofs and returned them to [his home] La Californie at exactly 1:30. This regular rhythm of working continued for eight years, every day, except Saturday and Sunday.” This idiosyncratic procedure speaks to the collaborative effort of these printmaking ventures, which included his partner, his printer, and his chauffeur Title: Vallauris Exhibition 1954 Artist: Pablo Picasso Printer: Printed by Hidalgo Arnéra Publisher: Published by Hidalgo Arnéra Date: 1954 Medium: Linoleum cut ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in 1881, Pablo Ruiz y Picasso followed in his father’s footsteps as an academically trained painter and studied art at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in his native Spain. Picasso traveled for the first time to Paris at age 19, establishing a studio there in 1904. He soon began a relationship with Fernande Olivier...
