About the Item

Original Swedish Movie poster for the 1918 film Bound in Morocco. The film was released in Sweden one year later in 1919. This film was an American silent comedy / romance starring Douglas Fairbanks. Fairbanks produced and wrote the film's story and screenplay. The artwork was done by Eric Rohman (1891-1949). Eric Rohman was a pioneer in poster design. Indeed, Rohman was in large part responsible for the development of such a distinctive style in Swedish posters during the first decades of the twentieth century. The simplicity of his graphics and his use of bold colours in two or three tones were ahead of their time. After studying at the Valand Painting School, Rohman began working in film poster design in 1916, and in 1920 opened his own studio. Over the course of his career, his personal output, and that of his studio, was prolific Provenance: The Julius Paul Collection Less than five of these posters are known to have survived

'For Heaven's Sake' Original Vintage Movie Poster by Eric Rohman, Swedish, 1926
By Eric Rohman
Located in Devon, GB
Printed in stunning stone lithography, this extremely rare poster was designed by prolific poster artist Eric Rohman for the original Swedish release of the action-packed 1926 American silent comedy 'For Heaven's Sake,' starring Harold Lloyd - one of the biggest stars of the silent era. After several years at Pathé, Lloyd made his debut at Paramount with this delightful slapstick classic, in which his trademark go-getting 'glasses' character appears as Uptown Boy J. Harold Manners, a millionaire playboy who falls for a Downtown Girl. With a dazzling finale featuring a double-decker bus careering through the city streets, the comedy of thrills was one of Lloyd's most successful films and the 12th highest grossing film of the silent era. Rohman's whimsical lunar poster design was inspired by a charming scene in which Harold woos his Downtown Girl (Jobyna Ralston) by the romantic light of a crescent moon - which is then revealed to be part of a neon sign for Crescent Laundry! Lushly printed in lapis blue, black and a contrasting orange, the enchanting Art Deco style artwork pictures the loved up...

Paul Colin Poster Artist Le Tumulte Noir 10
By Paul Colin
Located in Saint ouen, FR
Paul Colin Poster artist 1892 - 1985 When the young Afro-American music-hall dancer Josephine Baker and the poster artist Paul Colin met during the rehearsals of the Revue Nègre in Paris in 1925, both were still unknown to the general public. No one suspects that this show will propel them both to international fame and reveal them both as key figures of the Roaring Twenties, that extraordinary decade (1920-1930) which continues to fascinate us with its gaiety, audacity, modernity and dazzling artistic vitality.
