Original antique Soviet propaganda poster dedicated to Education Week featuring the bold text down the centre in Russian and Chagatai (also known as Turki) in the Nasta'liq script below an open book with a hammer and sickle on it and a red star shining from the behind it - Неграмотный, что тебе даст школа / Illiterate, what will school give you? - framed by text running vertically - Состоярние хозяства при культурной обработке земли / The state of the farm under cultural cultivation of the land - next to side by side illustrations comparing the state of the economy showing primitive farming down the left and more advanced developments down the right depicting: a farmer in rags working the land in front of a skinny horse and run down shack vs men working with new machinery with smart farm houses in the background; a countryside view of homes in a poor state vs a row of neat trees and a road with new housing and electricity with mountains in the background; textile workers processing and weaving by hand outdoors using sticks, trees and rocks vs people working in a factory indoors; and a scene showing a malnourished horse behind a crying child and a sad and desperate man sitting on a rock with a crow looking at them on the branch of a bare tree vs chickens and a healthy looking horse in the courtyard of a farmhouse with a lady working a machine and man carrying a sack on his back, a pile of hay and sheep in the background. The Turkestan Socialist Federative Republic TSFR, later the Turkestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic TASSR (1920), was formed in 1918; in 1924 this Soviet Central Asia area was split into smaller ethic regions to form the Uzbek SSR (now Uzbekistan), Turkmen SSR (now Turkmenistan), Tajik ASSR (now Tajikistan), Kara-Kirghiz Autonomous Oblast (now Kyrgyzstan), and Karakalpak Autonomous Oblast (now Autonomous Republic of Uzbekistan as Karakalpakstan). Published by the Turkestan State Publishing House. Horizontal. Good condition, repaired tears, staining, creasing, small paper losses, backed on linen.
