About the Item

"Glory to Komsomol" – A Rare Symbol of Soviet Youth's Heroism Step into a piece of history with this Original Soviet Silk Screen-Printed Art Poster, an emblem of Soviet artistry and revolutionary spirit. Crafted in minimal editions, this rare collectable is more than just a visual masterpiece—it's a powerful connection to a time when art ignited passion and inspired generations. Numbered 676 by the Union of Artists of the USSR, this iconic piece commemorates 50 years of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (Komsomol). Imagine the bold trumpet calls, the marching soldiers, and the triumphant red backdrop—each detail an echo of Soviet youth’s call to action. The sharp, angular lines and vivid contrasts between red, white, and black don't just grab attention—they embody strength, unity, and progress. As you hang this poster, feel yourself aligned with the energy of Komsomol, the proud symbol of a revolutionary future. This is not just an art piece; it's a rallying cry for unity and action, just as it was for Soviet youth marching toward a bright, shared future. Bring this symbol of resilience and heroism into your space and be reminded of the power of collective strength every day. This Soviet poster, with its striking and powerful visual style, serves as a bold celebration of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (Komsomol), the VLKSM. The poster, seemingly marking the 50th anniversary of the organization's founding, is symbolized by the dates "1918–1968", prominently displayed in the upper portion of the image. Here's a detailed breakdown of the design: Text and Slogans: At the bottom, the phrase "СЛАВА ВЛКСМ!" is boldly written in white against a red background, meaning "Glory to the VLKSM!" This is a jubilant celebration of the Komsomol's significant achievements, which played a pivotal role in mobilizing Soviet youth for the Communist cause. In the upper left, we see the traditional Soviet phrase "Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!" ("Workers of the world, unite!"), a powerful testament to the internationalism of the Communist movement. Colours: Red dominates the poster, a colour heavily associated with communism and revolution. The entire poster is essentially a two-tone artwork, using red and white to create a sharp contrast, with occasional touches of black to define details. The colour scheme of red, white, and black reinforces the boldness of the message and the clarity of purpose common to Soviet propaganda posters. Imagery and Symbolism: Trumpeters: The central and repeating figures in the background are young Komsomol members playing trumpets, symbolizing the call to action and the propagation of Soviet ideals. The figures are stylized and rendered with angular lines and sharp details to emphasize their energy and determination. The large trumpet in the foreground leads the charge, suggesting that the Komsomol is at the forefront of revolutionary progress. Marching Soldiers: In the lower left, a group of marching soldiers (or perhaps Komsomol members) is depicted in silhouette, further emphasizing unity and forward movement. The lines that radiate around the figures suggest both speed and energy, enhancing the feeling of a collective force moving towards a common goal. Communist Symbols: In the top left corner is a prominent emblem featuring the hammer, sickle, and other communist motifs, such as the star and wheat sheaves. With the acronym CCCP (USSR), this emblem further reinforces the connection between the state and communist ideals. The dates 1918–1968 are displayed on a banner flowing over the heads of the trumpeters, symbolizing the celebration of Komsomol's 50th anniversary. This highlights the long-standing importance of the organization in Soviet society. Stylistic Elements: The style is geometric and simplified, typical of Soviet art in this period. It relies on the powerful contrast of red and white to draw attention. The figures are highly stylized, with angular, almost mechanical shapes, representing an idealized vision of the Soviet youth—strong, determined, and marching toward the future. The figures' diagonal lines and repetitive patterns give the impression of movement and momentum, reinforcing the idea that the Komsomol is driving the future of Soviet society. The poster is a dynamic celebration of the Komsomol, the youth organization that was pivotal in spreading Communist ideals and engaging Soviet youth in socialist construction. The trumpet-blowing figures symbolize a clarion call to action, inspiring young people to rally behind the cause of communism. Red, as the dominant colour, symbolizes the revolutionary spirit and the Soviet state's strength, while sharp, angular design elements suggest determination and forward motion. The written text on the poster is in Ukrainian and says: Lenin 1918-1968. "Proletarians of All Countries Unite! CCCP" "Glory to the Konsomol!" The name of the artist is printed on the poster. Published by the "Agitplakat" Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. This artwork is the creation of Timofey Anatolevich Lyaschuk (1930-2015), a renowned Ukrainian artist. Lyaschuk was a painter, graphic artist, poster artist and a member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1967, he was awarded the Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, and in 1969, he was recognized as an Honored Artist of Ukraine. In 2000, he received the Commendation of the President of Ukraine for his contributions to the arts. Komsomol The All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (Russian: Всесою́зный ле́нинский коммунисти́ческий сою́з молодёжи (ВЛКСМ)), usually known as Komsomol (Russian: Комсомо́л, a syllabic abbreviation of the Russian kommunisticheskiy soyuz molodyozhi), was a political youth organization in the Soviet Union. It is sometimes described as the youth division of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). However, it was officially independent and referred to as "the helper and the reserve of the CPSU."
