About the Item
A modern lithograph on wove paper titled “Sonne Im Thor (Sun in the Gate)” after Paul Klee. Annotated 77/100 on the lower left. Few impressions (only 3 known, one of them hand-colored). This abstract composition showcases Klee’s whimsical yet calculated approach to line and form, rendered in a delicate black ink over a warm orange ground. Evoking celestial and architectural elements, the print balances geometric minimalism with expressive texture, capturing the poetic ambiguity for which Klee is celebrated. Examples of this edition are in permanent museum collection, such as the Museum of Modern Art.

Paul Klee (1879–1940) was a Swiss-German modernist whose work bridged Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism. A master of color theory and visual language, Klee taught at the Bauhaus and his works are housed in major institutions worldwide, including MoMA, the Tate, and Zentrum Paul Klee. His unique visual syntax continues to influence generations of contemporary artists.

Paul Klee
Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included Expressionism, Cubism and Surrealism.
Klee was a natural draftsman who experimented with and eventually deeply explored color theory, writing about it extensively; his lectures Writings on Form and Design Theory (Schriften zur Form und Gestaltungslehre) — which were published in English as the Paul Klee Notebooks — are held to be as important for modern art as Leonardo da Vinci's A Treatise on Painting was for the Renaissance.
Klee and his colleague, Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, both taught at the Bauhaus school of art, design and architecture in Germany. His works reflect his dry humor and his sometimes childlike perspective, his personal moods and beliefs, and his musicality.
