About the Item

This antique framed hand-embroidered textile is unsigned, and presumed to have originated from Italy and dating to approximately 1900 and done in a Renaissance Revival style. This piece of very well executed hand-embroidery is done in silk and silver thread and depicts an allegorical vignette. The thread appears to be in very good period condition and the colors are bright and vibrant, and no stains or deterioration of the textile is visible. The textile is framed by a well known framer of fine art from Montreal, Quebec Canada and has not been removed, or inspected other than through the glass. As such, we are not sure whether this is a finished sampler, or a fragment of a larger tapestry, or wall hanging.
