"Jack and Queen of Hearts," Pair of Bas Reliefs, Art Deco

$3,750per set

Classic and beautiful examples of Art Deco sculpture, signed by Waylande Gregory, one of America's leading sculptors before and after World War II, this pair of reliefs is enrobed in a satiny, ivory-hued glaze, over a ruddy clay body. Both the Jack and the Queen are holding a heart, and could almost have stepped out of an Art Deco production of Alice in Wonderland. Prodigious and indefatigable, Gregory produced a wide range of sculptures and wares in ceramic beginning in his college days, through his years working with Lorado Taft and later when he created large multi-figure pieces for WPA projects, institutions and public parks.
