Jean Prouvé INSA Facade Panel, France, 1957

About the Item

Architectural grille facade element designed by Jean Prouve and manufactured by C.I.M.T, France 1957. This panel was part of the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA), Doua campus building, Villeurbanne, France 1957. This isolation element is made of pressed aluminium and is foam filled. It is a very decorative architectural element, when hanging on a wall it is like a piece of art. And of course, beautiful to combine with mid century furniture, or other Jean Prouvé furniture as the example on the pictures (chair not available for sale). The element is in original condition, has some bumps and signs of wear but this was hanging vertically on a building for 60 years, so this has age related wear. The last 3 pictures are from the Campus where you can see the panels still mounted to the building. A few years ago, the building was completely renovated, and many panels were destroyed. Luckily a few were still saved.A highly decorative piece by one of the most wanted designers of the 20th century. Literature: Jean Prouvé, Oeuvre Complète Vol. 4: 1954-1984, Peter Sulzer, Birkhäuser, 2008, referenced under nos. 1332 and following, pp. 124-131.

  • Period Gothic Oak Trunk or Chest Façade from Picardie France, circa 1550
    Located in Dallas, TX
Often when centuries-old trunks did not survive the passage of time, 19th-century menuisiers (French woodworkers) would salvage the surviving wood and carve new furniture such as desks and similar trunks. The facade was typically the most ornate section of these antique trunks, making intact frontages highly valued antiques. Hand-carved from oak in Picardie, France, circa 1550, this period Gothic architectural is a beautiful example of an antique trunk facade that was not incorporated into a more recent furnishing. Picardie is a former administrative region in northern France that is home to many Gothic cathedrals. The Amiens Cathedral (mid-13th century) is the largest standing cathedral in Europe and is truly a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Our trunk frontage has five vertically oriented inset panels embellished with various forms of Gothic tracery, including high-arching niches...
