Jean Prouvé INSA facade panel France 1960 large

About the Item

Architectural ribbed so called "grill" facade element designed by Jean Prouve and manufactured by C.I.M.T (Compagnie industrielle du matériel de transport) in Neuilly sur Seine, France in 1960. This panel was part of the Institute National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA), Doua campus building, Villeurbanne, France 1957. This isolation element is made of pressed aluminium and is foam filled. The C.I.M.T. "grill" element was chosen for all the teaching buildings and the restaurant because of its technical qualities, its flexibility of adaption to the proposed architecture. It is a beautiful decorative architectural element, when hanging on a wall it is like a piece of art. Jean Prouvé (1901–1984) was a pioneering figure in 20th-century furniture and architecture. He embraced modern metalworking techniques, transitioning from wrought iron to thin sheet steel in the 1930s. His innovative use of materials, including aluminum, led to the creation of furniture and architectural components in small series. Prouvé's factory in Maxeville (1945–1954) produced furniture designed for easy assembly and adaptability. His "constructional philosophy" emphasized functionality and rational fabrication, aligning with the Union of Modern Artists' principles. Beyond educational and office furniture, Prouvé contributed significantly to post-war reconstruction in France, prioritizing experience over profit. His avant-garde spirit and humanist approach remain relevant, evident in his diverse works, such as postwar schools and iconic buildings. Prouvé's collaboration with renowned architects left an indelible mark on 20th-century architecture, with many of his creations now recognized as historic monuments. Literature; Jean Prouve Complete Works Volume 4: 1954-1984 Peter Sulzer 2008, page 131 Priced and sold individually, 2 available. The Perriand chair on the pictures is not included but can be purchased here.
