Chaise Lounge Model PK24 Designed by Poul Kjaerholm for E. Kold Christensen

About the Item

Chaise longue model PK24 designed by Poul Kjaerholm for E. Kold Christensen, Denmark, 1965 Stainless steel, cane and leather. Provenance: 20th Century Marks, Westerham Acquired from the above by the present owner, 2002 L: 145 cm W: 60 cm H: 88 cm SH: 15 cm The PK24 chaise longue designed by Poul Kjaerholm in 1965 for E. Kold Christensen is a Scandinavian design icon. It is also commonly referred to as the “Hammock chair”. Its stainless steel frame is combined with an elongated cane seat and a leather neck cushion, creating a sleek and minimalistic silhouette. Ingeniously, the angle of the seat can be adjusted by pushing or pulling the sides of the frame. The slight recline and ergonomic design ensure optimal support for the body. Poul Kjaerholm’s design aesthetic is defined by combining different primary materials; he frequently used steel and traditional materials such as cane, leather, wood, marble or glass. The PK24 chaise longue effortlessly blends form and function. Poul Kjaerholm (1929-1980) was a Danish furniture designer. Through his meticulous attention to detail and masterful craftsmanship, Kjaerholm created furniture pieces that continue to be revered as timeless examples of Danish modernism.
