Dr. Andrew Francis Dixon (1868-1936), University Professor of Anatomy in 1903, Member of the Anatomical Society, and Dean of the Faculty of Physic at Trinity College, Dublin.
The collection of Dr. A.F. Dixon including:
A Victorian-era brass monocular microscope with reflection mirror by J. T. Slugg, Manchester. The cased instrument with various reflection lenses and eye pieces fitted in a mahogany carrying case with brass handle.
The drawer fitted for housing slides and lenses.
Microscope marked: Slugg, 214 Stretford Road, Manchester
Box measuring: H 12 1/4" x W 9" x D 8"
A boxed collection of medical research vials, eye cups, test tubes, pharmaceutical measuring balance and weights, surgical pliers, metal syringe, etc.
Box measuring: H 11" x W 8 1/2" x D 7 3/4"
Incidentals: two large treen containers housing medical glass bottles with stoppers, two cobalt blue glass bowls, two leather-bound medicine glass measures, surgical thread in vials, etc.
Biography of the professor included along with presentation folio in green leather with gilt accents, signed by many celebrated and esteemed colleagues of the time. Frontispiece announcing the gift of the microscope to the professor upon leaving Trinity College for University College, Cardiff. Including a telegram from 1897 wishing him well.
