About the Item
Crafted from 15 karat gold and set with two emeralds and a single diamond, this hinged bangle was manufactured in Victoria during the first quarter of the 20th century. The bangle is hallmarked for the Melbourne jewellers Hiddlestone & Saunders who were operating from 318 Little Collins Street in Melbourne's CBD. The central element of the bangle features two rectangular cut emeralds which flank an old European cut diamond of P/Q colour and P2 clarity totalling 0.20 carat. The bangle is hallmarked for manufacture from 15 karat yellow gold and features the 'hanged sheep' mark which was used to denote this purity in Australian jewellery in the late 19th and early 20th century. The piece is hinged which allows it to easily go over the hand, and is of a generous size. The tongue and box clasp is working well and is secure, and is complimented with a fine gold safety chain to prevent the piece falling to the floor when placing it on the arm. A really beautiful piece of Australian made jewellery from the early 20th century which is ready for its new custodian.
