So elegant, this Celestial Diamond & Pearl Crescent Moon brooch has some of the prettiest and most sparkly diamonds. It’s wonderful as a brooch but would also convert beautifully to a necklace or pendant, should you desire. Crafted of gold testing between 12K and 15K with silver, the brooch pin features a crescent moon shape set with super bright and sparkly old rose cut diamonds and old mine cut diamonds, centered with a lustrous champagne colored pearl. I estimate the total carat weight to be approximately 1.16 carats, or so. A nice size - neither very small nor overly large, the crescent measures approximately 1 3/4 inches from tip to tip (approx. 43.5 mm) On my scale, it weighs a nice 4.50 grams. There are a total of 30 bright and fiery old cut diamonds: 20 rose cut diamonds and 10 mine cut diamonds. The rose cuts make up the crescent and attached "stars", while the mine cuts create a flower or sunburst - starburst around the pearl at the center of the crescent moon. Often old rose cut diamonds are rather dark, murky and included - but these are very fine quality (especially the larger diamonds) and have tons of life, sparkle and great color/clarity. Each of the larger rose cuts are approximately 3.3 mm in diameter, and they gradually get smaller so the diamonds at each point are approximately 1.3 - 1.5 mm in size. Six additional rose cut diamonds are set in wonderful cut down collet settings, with each diamond approximatley 2 mm in size. Both diamonds and settings remain in very good original condition with only very slight wear. (there are two of the diamond "star" settings that have small round holes on the sides (you can see one in macro photo #9. These are original and likely were part of an old screw on attachment, as many pieces during this era were made to be worn in different ways) The mine cut diamonds are wonderfully bright and fiery and create a lovely contrast to the sheen of the pearl. Chunky and a bit rustic with their open culets, the mine cuts average approximatley 2.2 - 2 mm in diameter. They have very nice color and good clarity. I see a few tiny chips under magnification (or perhaps small imperfections from surface naturals that were left during the cutting process); they are eye-clean and very brilliant. Their settings show a little expected wear but are in good condition for their age, in my opinion. Measuring approximately 5.2 mm in diameter, the pearl has a lovely warm, creamy champagne color with slight pink undertones. The nacre is in great condition - I see no damage. The color makes me think of a full moon when it has that wonderful glowing warm creamy pale yellow color. On the back is the "c" style clasp and elegantly curved pin stem that mirrors the curve of the crescent itself. The pin and clasp work well, and the brooch is in overall very good condition.
