Antique Georgian Gold and Enamel Hair Mourning Brooch for Isaac Shakespeare

About the Item

A fine Georgian gold and enamel hair art mourning pin. Memorializing Isaac Shakespeare (possibly a William Shakespeare descendent). With braided hair behind glass in a worked gold setting with a black enamel band. The enamel band has gold lettering that reads: IN MEMORY OF *. The dedication on the reverse reads: Isaac Shakespeare Died 14th, May 1827 Aged 61 Years. In the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialize a departed loved one or given as a keepsake memorial for a loved one in their absence. The gold tests at 14k and is quite possibly 15K (as many of these early pieces are). Length: ca. 21 mm Width: ca. 17 mm Items purchased from this dealer must delight you.
