Belperron Art Deco Gold Platinum Diamond Fibula Brooch

About the Item

Inspired by an ancient motif, this "fibula" brooch is a rare example of an Art Deco jewel by Suzanne Belperron. The brooch is noteworthy for its dramatic horizontality and is from the collection of two prominent American sisters, fashion models in Paris during the 1920s and 30s. We feel the original patina gives it a distinguished presence worthy of its importance within her body of work. It's illustrated in "Jewels By Suzanne Belperron" by Patricia Corbett, on page 159 and was styled as a belt buckle on Oprah Winfrey for the cover of WSJ Magazine's March (2018) Fashion issue. Designed a polished gold scroll enhanced by a pierced and pavé-set diamond plaque, terminating in two pavé-set diamond paisley motifs, each centering upon a large old European-cut diamond collet, mounted in platinum and yellow gold, by Suzanne Belperron, French, ca. 1935.
