Although Mourning Jewelry has a long & fascinating history, going back to as far as Middle Ages, its popularity reached its peak during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 - 1901). This extraordinary piece is a Victorian Mourning Brooch, dating back to circa 1852, it’s meticulously crafted in 12K Gold, its frame is elaborately designed with interlocking “C” scrolls, inlaid with black enamel The brooch features a central panel containing three locks of hair, surrounded by natural seed pearls of gorgeous creme colour & excellent lustre Beautifully detailed throughout, it has a provision to be worn as pendant Reverse is engraved “In memory of Ralph Cobb, dies 21, September, 1852 aged 66 years”. Measuring 50mm x 40mm, the brooch secures to the reverse with pin & safety clasp Total item’s weight: 23.7gr. Indeed, mourning pieces deserve museum display, as they are the hardest type of jewellery to find, hence unrivalled in value & highly collectable today This truly unique piece comes in a vintage box In beautiful condition
