Vintage Large William Spratling Silver and Amethyst Sunburst Brooch

From the jewelry master, the father of the Taxco Mexican jewelry market, William Spratling, we offer a Grand Silver and amethyst sunburst brooch in a design that is both modernist and part of the aztec heritage.. Between the large sun rays are 10 cabochon stones set in round bezel silver settings. The engravings is crisp and strong throughout the brooch. A flower at the center of the sun holds the 11th and largest amethyst. A superb brooch, it is a work of art. It is solidly constructed with high relief of sterling silver.
Spratling was an artist and an intellectual at the time that Mexico blossomed with writers, artists and the finest silver crafters, both men and women. His studio, Taller de las Delicias, became a village where the finest silver workers came together, designed and executed their art. T Museums from coast to coast had exhibits of Spratling jewelry and jewelers who worked along with him became famous in their own right.
