HattieCarnegie 1955 Signed Glass Crystal HandWired MixedBead GiltMetal Earrings

About the Item

These Hattie Carnegie multicolor glass, crystal and gilt-metal earrings notably include her script last-name signature without copyright symbol that is found on clips produced before her death in 1956. The hand-wired mixed beads include warm-tone glass, faceted crystal, and decorative gilt-metal in colors including red-coral, burgundy, cognac, champagne, copper, brass and gold. They are accented by the early blue-tone kind of iridescent crystals, which were nicknamed "aurora borealis" for their similarly reflected colors by their inventor Swarovski in 1955. This dates these earrings that include the progressive AB beads to the last year of Carnegie's life, when Christian Dior had also begun to use them. The bead wiring that is attached to a perforated plate is completely concealed by an additional gold-tone back at the base of the clips. The pair are in excellent condition, except for minute scratches on the hardware and a tiny amount of verdigris at some of the pinhead-ends of some of the brass wires, which is visible in the photos. Although Hattie Carnegie founded her clothing brand around 1920, her earliest signature on at least one piece of jewelry in a parure is "HC", which was first added in 1939.
