About the Item

Summary: A Victorian 18ct Yellow Gold Albert Chain Description: An antique 18ct yellow gold curb link Albert chain circa 1890. The chain is made up of uniform oval links and has a T-bar drop. Period: Victorian circa 1890 Setting: 18ct yellow gold, hallmarks on every link and T-bar Dimensions: Chain length 45cm/17.7" Drop 2cm/0.7" T-bar 3.8cm/1.5" Weight: 52 grams Condition: Very fine Director's Notes: The Albert chain is said to have been named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort who was said to be particularly partial to this style of watch chain. The T-bar would have been worn attached through the buttonhole of the waistcoat. Today usually worn as a necklace, this style is incredibly popular and many would consider an essential for a jewellery box. Finding an antique Albert chain in 18ct gold is more unusual and this example has a lovely weight and is in excellent condition showcasing beautiful Victorian craftmanship with hallmarks on all links.
