About the Item

This highly stylised and elegant parure consists of a necklace, brooch, bracelet and matching earrings. Cast and created through the lost wax process, this gives grater clarity and sharpness to the design, which is of a stylised flowerhead, the centre somewhat rose-like. Set with cabuchon paste 'moonstones' and clear pastes, this is a very wearable set, whether as a whole or individually. The set is not signed but is a well know Mitchel Maer design. It has an Art Nouveau vibe, mixed with 50s glamour, as well as something more fantastical and magical! An American by birth, Mitchel Maer settled in England , where his company made jewellery for Christian Dior in the 1950s. The jewellery created was of great artistic and technical quality. He collaborated and liaised with Paris for designs, mixing Georgian and Victorian designs, as well as B yzantine, and those of the ancient world. The originality of his jewels and his highly personal style granted him the privilege of co-signing his pieces ‘Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer’. This ephemeral house lasted a few years, ceasing in 1956. Hence these rare and beautiful pieces are highly cherished.
