About the Item

This pendant features a hand-painted depiction of Emperor Hadrian, skillfully painted by the artist Tommaso Rossi on a piece of Egyptian Jasper. Set in a 925 silver frame, it highlights intricate artistry and historical craftsmanship. The combination of precious stone and silver enhances the vivid portrayal of the Roman emperor, making it both a unique collectible and a wearable piece of art. The Egyptian Jasper's natural hues and texture further elevate the pendant’s distinctive appeal, blending ancient history with fine jewelry craftsmanship. Hadrian is best remembered for his extensive travels, notable construction projects, and his efforts to unify the vast territories of the Roman Empire. He possessed a refined aesthetic sense, was highly educated, and even left behind a collection of poems. Some of the architectural marvels attributed to his reign include the Temple of Rome and Venus, as well as the rebuilding of the Pantheon, which had suffered fire damage during the rule of his predecessor. Hadrian's tomb, known today as the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, served as a burial site for subsequent emperors and was later converted into a fortress during the 5th century. Tommaso Rossi is the talented young artist who creates these exquisite miniature portraits and mythical stories. Working on both marble and hard stone discs, he depicts historical and mythical figures from ancient Greece and Rome, using paints such as enamels, titanium acrylics and graphite. In his amazingly detailed technique, Tommaso employs either an echidna quill or a rose thorn instead of a brush to define the figures on these miniature masterpieces. Born in Rome in 2000, Tommaso first attended art school on Via Ripetta and then, recognized for his superior talent, he entered the prestigious “Scuola dell’Arte della Medaglia”. This is an elite art school in Rome where only a small number of the finest young artists are carefully chosen for further training in the arts of engraving and plastic modeling. For more than a century, exceptional artists have acquired additional skills through the use of ancient techniques, innovative methodologies, design and craftsmanship. Importance is also given to art history and conservation. Classical traditions are reimagined, merging Antiquity with present day culture.
