About vitreuos enamel:
The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level.
About guilloché:
Guilloché refers to a class of enamel with abstract geometric patterns cut into the surface of precious metals and showing clearly through the overlying glaze. The manner in which the design is engraved into the metal increases the luminous quality and play of colors in the translucent glaze when the object is rotated to catch the light.

About vitreuos enamel:
The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level.

An early Victorian blue enamel, pearl and diamond locket, to the centre a 18th century miniature portrait depicting the head of a lady in a blue dress, within a border of old-cut diamonds on a blue enamel oval mount set with half pearls and rose-cut diamonds in foliate motifs, brooch pin to back and detachable pearl and diamond set pendant loop, inscribed to back "Frances Countess of Winchilsea and Nottingham died September 27th 1734, with fitted case, circa 1840, measuring 4.2 x 2.5 cm, gross weight 17.1 grams.
This antique locket is in good condition, wear consistent with age and use.
Unmarked tested as 18ct gold.
